Shots & Pursuits

An argument turned into a shooting last night, apparently in the Ashton Square apartments. Combined with the police chase that ended with a truck plowing through the gates at George Wythe High School, it’s been an active 24 hours for the general Midlo/WH Blvd vicinity.

College assistance for Wythe students

Thanks to the I Have A Dream Foundation, 15 George Wythe seniors have earned college credit during high school and will be able to continue their education at university and/or the military. These students are also acting as mentors for younger children at Broad Rock Elementary, where students receive academic support, cultural activities and individual attention through their elementary, middle and high school years, plus tuition assistance for higher learning.

Here’s hoping the “New Direction” plan includes updating the infrastructure of some of these buildings. Doubtful, but hey, we can dream.

We’ve received a couple of reports of an afternoon fire in the Auditorium at George Wythe High. No word as to severity, but if anyone has heard anything…
