i find it insane that we are required by law to fund these criminals. i’d rather my tax money be spent housing them in city jail.
As I posted on the inrich.com article about the “redo” I think it is amazing that as a local kindergarten teacher I nor my collegues have seen any of these dictionaries purchased, in fact I had to purchase my own elementary level dictionary. It amazes be that we have tons of “textbooks” in a “warehouse” yet I dont have all the techers edition materials that I should have to teach my students. I have spent hundreds of dollars of my own money to provide materials and supplies for my students to grow and learn. It is very disapointing and discouraging to me to know that so much money is being thrown down the drain. Teachers and students could benefit so much in this city, but instead the officials feel they need to pad their own pockets. IT’S DISGRACEFUL!!!
I am finishing my last month of student teaching before I hit the job market. It’s stuff like this story that is keeping me from applying to work in the Richmond city schools. I like living here, but there’s no way I’m working for RPS.
After reading for months the investigative reports in Style on RPS then finally the scathing Audit Report in the Times-Dispatch, I am thoroughly disgusted.
The RPS system is overrun with corrupt and inept leaders from the top down. I’m shocked at how many sorority sisters and fellow church members of Superintendent Jewell-Sherman I’ve heard of that are in leadership positions. Regarding finance in RPS, Jewell-Sherman is accountable for this fiasco because, by definition, the Superintendent is responsible and accountable for everything that occurs within her school system from finance to in the schoolhouse.
And Sherman knew about Tom Sheeran’s poor performance. Carol Wolf was so out spoken about this assistant superintendent of finance that Sheeran said he was going to sue the school board. So the spineless school board members convened and voted that Sheeran could sue an individual instead of the entire board, i.e. Carol Wolf.
Students are being deprived of IB programs, Acelerated Reader software, bathroom doors, and ramps for the disabled. Recall the recent budget –not enough money to higher necessary middle school teachers and Jewell-Sherman had the audacity to blame the ADA compliance.
Yes this is a “Redo” but not by our current leaders.
The REAL question before the School Board tomorrow night is whether they will actually DO anything. True, Wolf has asked, pushed, prodded, and all but kicked George Braxton in the butt to get him to see that Sherman & Sheeran (and Crew) have been stealing the system blind.
A “Re-do”? How about a pink slip and an arrest warrant?
How about some accountability? Far too long teachers and students of RPS have been made to feel like second class citizens while the downtown admin staff has made no sacrifices whatsoever. From the looks of it, they wouldn’t even know the school system has had budget cuts. I have no fight left, going in search of greener pastures…
Three words: Patrick Henry Initiative. Call or write your council and school board members to let them know you support this charter school.
