Forest Hill Powhite ramp closure

On March 11, the on ramp from Eastbound Forest Hill to Northbound Powhite Parkway will close for roughly 6 weeks as part of the Powhite toll plaza reconfiguration. The RMA suggests Chippenham South to Powhite and/or the Boulevard Bridge as detours. Alas, I’m expecting lots of last-minute u-turn attempts during rush hour…

    Thanks, RMA….

We’re not getting a Forest Hill to Southbound Powhite Parkway exit ramp out of all this are we?

Jeff- I’m fairly certain that’s not in the plan.

Any word on what the new traffic pattern will actually be once construction is finished?

Any hope that there will be an “EZ Pass” only lanes (divided off from the other traffic) so that you can actually drive straight through the toll plaza? As it stands now, drivers in the inside and outside lanes will try to cross over every lane to get where they really want to be and this obstructs every lane in their travel.

I’m still confused as to why with 3 “EZ Pass” lanes, traffic comes to a stand still. Isn’t the point of “EZ Pass” to allow traffic to flow without a hindrance?

PS: change the signs so that all tolls have the same colors. Some toll booths have “EZ Pass” as white signs and other a purplish color. Nice work there, Lou.

Chris- I know they’re going to split the toll plazas so that they’re 1/2 mile apart or so. I’m also fairly certain the plan is to make the main roadway EZPass only lanes with overhead readers (not gates), with exit ramps on the side for people paying with cash, much like the setup on 895.

I think now that “Smart Tag” is being absorbed by EZPass, you’ll see the signs change.
