SPCA spay/neuter campaign

Richmond SPCA is providing free feline spaying/neutering through March 31. Residents of Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and Goochland can have their owned cats over 2 pounds fixed free of charge.

Even after this program ends, local residents who are “on government assistance, households with an annual income of less than $30,000, full-time college students, owners of pit bulls (and strong pit bull mixes) and feral cat caregivers” can can qualify for free spay/neuter services.

This campaign sounds like an excellent idea! How do I get my local humane society to implement this kind of program?

  3. posted by Caitlin at February 6, 2008 10:42 am :

Terence, check with your local humane society. Many humane societies or SPCAs either offer, or have references for, low-cost or free spay-and-neuter facilities in your area.

The Richmond SPCA also offers ongoing low-cost spay/neuter services for pet owners who do not qualify for free services. Prices range from $30-$60 depending upon whether the pet is a dog or a cat / male or female. For more information, please call the Richmond SPCA’s spay/neuter helpline at 804-521-1300. Until March 31, 2008, all publicly-owned cat surgeries will be free (regardless of income qualifications). The Richmond SPCA performs in excess of 11,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually. Low-cost vaccinations are available at the time of surgery.
