The Sign

A couple weeks ago, a brief discussion about the Forest Hill Park sign came up in the comments to another post. Today’s Style Weekly takes a look at the ongoing saga involving Friends of Forest Hill Park, the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association and Custom Ornamental Iron.

I thought the sign looked nice. Another case of focusing too closely on the details while overlooking the Big Picture. In the meantime, Farley and Co. are still picking up trash, discouraging cruising and deterring crime…

I thought the signed looked nice too and would have never noticed anything wrong with it had this article not been written. Then again, I don’t know what was really agreed upon between the sign company and involved neighborhood groups.

I guess if we’ve learned nothing else from this story, we’ve learned that Custom Ornamental Iron shouldn’t be our first choice when we need help with our ironwork. Ever heard of “quality control,” folks?

I’d like to request that the level of communication and design oversight, maintained between Friends of Forest Hill Park and Custom Ornamental Iron Inc., be posted here. I will be very leary of participating in further FOFHP fund raising activities until it’s known who is responsible for this waste of funds.

Good for Friends of Forest Hill Park for being such diligent stewards of this landmark park. They contracted to have an exact replica of the sign made, and that’s what they should pay for. Not some half baked substitute.
I for one don’t think that witholding payment until goods and services are delivered *as specified* is a waste of funds…especially since no $$ has changed hands yet. In fact, they are being extremely professional about this.
How many of you hand over money for work that has not been done as specified?
The contractor in question has acknowledged that they are at fault, and now they’re making good.
