Fatal Shooting

A shooting at St. John’s Wood apartments has left a woman dead. Both the T-D and NBC12 are reporting that the shooting is likely domestic in nature. Channel 12 quotes a police spokesperson as saying “This sector is normally a very quiet neighborhood…We do get reports for various types of crime, but it is a relatively quiet neighborhood,” but I seem to recall a similar shooting either at St John’s Wood or the adjoining complex within the last year or so.

I moved from this location a month ago. It is not quiet and I called the police on a group of kids who jumped into the back of my car at 11 o’clock at night. The cops basically laughed in my face and acted like they did something and they didn’t. I told them the area is bad, the neigborhood gets robbed at least 2 times a month. Nobody cares and look what happens. This complex needs to be shut down or taken more seriously by the police.

The complex is definitely having some “broken window” issues. It seems rather poorly-maintained, which is a management issue and not the residents’.

Yes, I believe there was a teacher shot & killed in the adjoining complex (Ashley Park?) about a year ago. Also domestic in nature. “Quiet” is definitely a relative term, and I suppose cops who are hardened by the crime in Blackwell think the occasional shooting is no big deal.

St. John’s Wood used to be a great place to live and was beautifully maintained when I rented there years ago. I am saddened to see the complex go downhill so fast. Stolen cars and robberies have become commonplace. Now someone has died. I’ve heard a neighborhood watch has been started. Maybe that will help.

Mary, there was never a murder at Ashley Park

St. John’s Wood apartments were very nice till the mid 1990’s, when they started allowing section 8 tenants in to several buildings. This was easy and fast money, to the apartment owners, but came with risk. The apartment management quickly reversed that decision, but after a year the genie was out of the bottle. St. John’s Woods began to change, with crime rising. Now slowly returning, we wish them luck.
