Patrick Henry update
Susanna from the Patrick Henry School Initiative passes along the following:
The Patrick Henry School Initiative submitted its charter school application to the Richmond City School Board in the beginning of October (YEAH!!!)
The proposed charter school would be open to any elementary school aged child in the city.
What’s next? An independent, nine-member Review Team evaluates the application within the next six months. This team then recommends one of the following options to the School Board for each application: approve, reject, place on a waiting list or return with suggestions for improvement. Following receipt of the Review Team’s recommendation, the School Board issues its ruling within 30 days.
For a more detailed look at the review process, please check the Richmond City School Board website at www.richmond.k12.va.us/schoolboardnew/index.htm
Other Updates:
We are close to getting our 501c3 non-profit designation, but lack the funds to submit the application to the IRS ($750). This is an important step because we need non-profit status to apply for grants and approach corporate donors. Anyone who would like to make a donation (even small donations help) can send a check to:

Richmond, VA 23218
We are now setting up an Exploratory Committee to do an initial search for principal and teacher applicants. Those interested in participating should contact gina.wojo@gmail.com (particularly if they have HR interviewing experience). Those interested in applying should check the website regularly for a call for applicants from the Exploratory Committee (probably early November).
July 08: Proposed, tentative Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts Opening.

THANKS to all involved in the effort and all the neighborhood support we have received.
