People have GOT to be more careful at the Jahnke/Forest Hill light. That’s the second wreck there in about a week - the other time the cars ended up across the street, against the pole next to the playground. Both cars in both accidents were totaled, and I’m amazed nobody got maimed in the one yesterday.
To review: red means STOP, yellow means SLOW DOWN.
I will add to Jennifer’s comments by saying that 25 MPH means DRIVE TWENTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR. There’s a reason we have posted speed limits.
Does anyone have any idea what happened on the corner of Forest Hill and Cedar on Tues 10/16 around 6pm? There were at least 5 cop cars out there. Was that related to a traffic accident? It looked more serious than that.
Good gravy. The cops need to start handing out tickets to enforce the 25mph speed limit in this area. Remember when the scooter kid got killed at this same intersection? How many people have to die before the police will start enforcing the speed limits in our neighborhoods?
The scooter kid was at the intersection with Leicester, by Forest View rescue squad’s building. The fatality on Thursday morning was down near Powhite, in the curve (the scene tape was still up yesterday). He actually uprooted the utility pole and broke off the bottom five feet or so, including the part that was in the ground.
Also, the speed limit on most of Forest Hill is 35 or 40MPH, not 25. Doesn’t help when people’re going 50-60, though.
I witnessed an accident at jahnke and forest hill about 4 months ago. Both cars going fast, one tried to bust a move and turn onto jahnke in front of a car that ended up flipping onto its roof right in front of me. the flipped car had a dazed dog that wandered off. What can be done? I’m sure a great many of these are people trying to beat the light. Perhaps if the left hand turn lane going west on forest hill goes to red instead of staying green? Is the length of the light inappropriate? Seems like it’s had a higher number of wrecks than it should.
Unfortunately, nothing can fix “going fast” and “trying to beat the light” except some common sense on drivers’ parts (hah), although more traffic enforcement might help. It’s not as if there’s a lack of places for the police to park with a good view so they can ticket the idiots.
Another Forest Hill/Jahnke wreck tonight in the rain. Looked like 3 cars, couldn’t tell if anyone was hurt…
