holy crap!
The T-D has more this morning. Apparently the robber lived right behind the store on Cherokee.
That place has been hit up one too many times. Looks like some one had enough.
You’d think people would have stopped robbing Rainbow Donuts, too (what’s the robbers-shot tally there?) but they never figure it out…
I just hope there were no kids in the store to see it happen.
I saw that on the news last night and immediately shut and locked my front door. Too close for comfort. And never something you want to happen at an ice cream shop. My mind is boggled that these kids scooping ice cream are also packin’ heat.
re: Mary’s “kids…packin’ heat” comment - The store owner, not an employee, was the shooter (citizens under 21 can not legally carry a concealed firearm).

Police are looking for a particular witness.
The events was bad enough, but that article might be the poorest-written news story I’ve ever read. Where does WTVR get their “journalists,” and do they employ any editors?
Correction to my earlier comment: The owner was not the shooter, it was a 21 year old store manager.

that article might be the poorest-written news story I’ve ever read
The local TV websites, with their apparently direct transcripts of the broadcast, really expose how light on content and how poorly written the TV news has become.
The newspaper stories, sadly, often aren’t much better. I think it took 3 tries for the T-D to correctly place this store in Stratford Hills, not Forest Hill. A small detail to them, no doubt, but one a local paper should be able to nail on the first try.
Stratford Hills residents have started a petition asking prosecutors not to file charges against the store clerk.
I think we as the communities of Forest Hill, Westover Hills and Woodland Heights need to start our own petition in addtion to protest any proceedings that take place charging this young individual attending VCU. Personally, I would more than happy to wave a sign! Can anyone help out getting this organized?
How do you get to the petition? I would like to sign. Also, what is the B&R worker’s name? We are thinking of starting an account for donations in his name.
From what I’ve read here, it appears to me that the thief was shot in the back; also, there were shell casings outside the store, suggesting the clerk followed the thief outdoors and kept shooting. There’s no way I would sign a petition supporting someone who did all that. Have I missed some details to this story that put the clerk in a more positive light?
Petition reaches 500 signatures
He was robbed at gunpoint. I think that is enough.
Once you put the thought of potentially hurting another individual and using force and intimidation to rob someone you are than putting yourself in harms way and should expect the very worse to come.
Ok folks, Commonwealth Attorney Herring has decided to go forward with a grand jury indictment against Fielding, the store manager. If by some miracle you end up getting called for jury duty in the next few months, GO. Get on his jury and refuse to indict him. Fielding stopped this career criminal much more quickly and decisively than our so-called system of justice. He should be given a medal, not a set of silver bracelets.
I agree with Dan. He shot the thief in the back. This was not a matter of self defense. He is lucky he’s not being charged with murder.
