More details on recent crime
From the folks at the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association, on the recent assault:
At approximately 5:20 p.m. Sunday, August 26, a resident in the 4600 block of Sylvan Road witnessed a black male walking down her block carrying a backpack. The male subject passed in front of her and approached a homeowner who was standing in front of her own door at the end of the block. The male subject approached the homeowner and attempted to gain access to the residence during which he struck the homeowner causing her to fall to the ground. The homeowner began screaming at which time the male subject left the scene. The police responded to the scene and a report was taken.
The suspect’s description:
Black Male
Mid to late 20s
No Facial hair
5′8″ to 5′9″ in height
Black Skull Cap
Gold & White T-Shirt
Shorts - Unknown Color
Black over the shoulder Bag- not a traditional 2 loop back pack
Kitchen Knife - Long blade with Wooden handle (recovered at the scene)This is the 1st assault of a Westover Hills resident we have had in the neighborhood in several years. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and be especially aware of suspicious individuals traveling through our neighborhood. Please don’t hesitate to call 911!

Noah–please pass the word that this was great info to pass along. We made an arrest of an individual matching that decription who was hanging in the area. He had a firearm in his possession and we will be investigating him for possible involvement in other incidents. Keep up the good work.

Please read this e-mail that I just received from a Forest Hill neighborhood resident. She was kind enough to call me to alert me to the situation and compose this e-mail.
I just called the police and they sent two officers to speak
with me.
As I was returning from Ukrops, traveling east on New Kent Road, I noticed a man meeting the description of the man that has committed the robberies in Westover Hills. (He was walking west in the 4900 block of New Kent.) I immediately called 911 on my cell phone. I circled the block and observed him as he walked north on Westover Hills Boulevard. He crossed to the west side of Westover Hills Boulevard and was walking north when a very dark Volvo (around 1995, boxy, maybe a 740 or 760) stopped. The man ran to the passenger door and hopped in. The driver of the Volvo did not roll down his window and ask if the man needed a ride, so I assumed this was a preplanned rendezvous.
The man was wearing a black doo-rag(?), long jeans shorts, a very long white t-shirt, a black bag crossed over his chest and I believe tennis shoes. He certainly met the description of the man described by the victims of the Westover Hills robberies.
This resident did absolutely the right thing in this situation!
Be aware of your surroundings and if you see a suspicious person or situation call 911! Try and get as much descriptive information as you can including the license plate numbers of vehicles.

The man was arrested on a weapons charge. He may or may not be responsible for the crime(s) in Westover Hills.
I just wanted to let you know that who ever has been breaking into cars around our neighborhood has stepped it up a notch. They literally walked onto our carport and took our lawn mower and weed eater that we had just bought in June. That was not all they took from us though…. They took our source of income. We cannot afford to buy new ones much less used ones, as someone bought those for us to help us get off of our feet and earn some money to live off of. We were already struggling as it was, but to have this person take away what we had left to survive on is ridiculous!! This happened on Grandview Dr.
It was brought to my attention by several RPD officers, that homes on Forest Hill Avenue were targeted back in late summer by several latino young men. And were probably illegal immigrants. These males were taking yard equipment and tools. Patrols were increased and this issue ended. But as the holidays approach, everybody should be cautious and be aware of surroundings.
