It’s a pay subscription site, $50/year, but you get to review contractors and read the reviews other users have posted. It’s huge in other cities, it would be awesome if it could grow here. My mom used Mr Handyman after reading the reviews on that site, and said the guy who came out did a great job and it was real affordable.
I’ll second the recommendation for Mr. Handyman. They did a small carpentry job for me last summer. The guy was efficient, polite, and professional, and he did a great job. They might be a little more expensive than others, but the “others,” in my experience, are often poor communicators and unreliable in various ways. (It’s amazing how badly so many contractors treat their potential customers, isn’t it?)
Good luck in your search! Let us know how it goes!
